Get Better Heating with These Tips

Here are a few ways that you can get great heating this winter:

1.      Put Your Curtains to Use

Your curtains and blinds are your greatest allies in the fight to get warm. If you’re not opening up your curtains or blinds to let in a little light during the brightest point of the day, you’re not putting natural lighting to use. Natural light actually increases the internal temperature of your home. This means you’re getting warmer without the extra legwork.

2.      Move It!

You might switch things up in your home when the temperatures are milder, and you don’t need your HVAC systems as much. If you’ve moved any large piece of furniture in front of a vent during the off-season, take this as your sign to move it away. Clear up some space to get the best heating possible.

3.      Layer Up

There’s nothing wrong with snuggling up underneath a blanket from time to time. Keep your feet and your head warm when you’re at home. It’ll help you feel warmer and rely on your heater less.

4.      Insulate

Your home should be well insulated. Start with weatherstripping and caulking. If the problem isn’t improved through these efforts, then it’s time to move onto bigger work like attic insulation.

5.      Upgrade Your Thermostat

Even digital thermostats aren’t really cutting it anymore. If you still have one of these, we want you to take the time to seriously consider a Wi-Fi or Smart thermostat. You can talk to one of our professionals about this potential upgrade.

6.      Run It Responsibly

Make sure that you’re choosing a reasonable setting for your home’s thermostat. You don’t want to choose a super high heat setting just because you’re cold upon initially walking into your home. Running your home’s heater responsibility means that you’re choosing a mild temperature and waiting for things to heat up.

7.      Replace

You have to know when it’s a good idea to hang on versus when it’s a good idea to upgrade. If you’ve struggled with your heater over the past few years, then it’s a great sign that you should upgrade. Heating repairs shouldn’t be that frequent and no work you have performed should be too expensive.
